Featured Artist interview:Solitude Within (E51)

About: Solitude Within from Buenos Aires

"Solitude Within is a solo-project started by Lucas Wetzels to express the musical side of his ever busy mind - a labyrinth where architecture, philosophy and music are intertwined and always cross paths. Writing, production, mixing and album artwork are all done by Lucas to fully express the mood he envisions. The outcome is some atmospheric and layered music leaning towards progressive rock, with a little touch of metal and some guitar-stuff thrown in for good measure. With his second album ‘A Hundred Year Ocean’ finished, he is now working on the third album titled ‘The Solitary Tree’."

1).How would you spend a million dollars if you had it?
I would probably save most of it, but spend a bit of it travelling around the world and writing texts and music on the road, inspired by landscapes, people, etc...and I probably couldn't resist getting some more music gear as well.

Featured Artist interview: Geri X (E48)

About: Geri X

"Bulgarian-born Geri X is a composer, a musician and a singer hard to put a label on. Fans and critics spotted it from the moment she broke onto the Tampa Bay music scene: Geri is an artist with a singular sound you have not heard before. One can see it in the way she confidently plays her Babicz guitar, eyes half open and soul pouring out with a rich, crisp and mesmerizing voice.
What started with a classical training in piano, guitar and voice, evolving out of a broad and eclectic blend of influences, has become wonderfully her own. In the process of sharing her songs, Geri bares her soul to ease the audience’s emotions. It is the strength of the voice and the charge to each word that draws them to a halt. “Geri X is a poet, rebel, and a singer with a voice that is demanding to be heard. She carries the intensity of a Mike Tyson punch with the serene beauty of one of the best female vocalists of this era” (L.A. Post)
She has received countless accolades for her work, including Creative Loafing’s Best Singer Songwriter for 2 years in a row, as well as playing Summerfest and Steel Bridge Song Festival in the last few years.
Aside from being a workaholic and an alluring performer, often carrying out few shows in a day, Geri is a prolific songwriter. This is a fundamental quality, which combined with her work ethic and the gift of sharing make her a true artist: one you can connect to.
Whether with a full band or on stage with just a guitar, she is simply captivating. One only needs to experience it."

Featured Artist interview: Pawn Shop Saints (E46)

About: Pawn Shop Saints from Adams, Massachusetts

"Original co-front men, Jeb Barry and Mike O'Neill, for the 1980s-1990s power pop group The Typicals are back after several years of solo projects with the Americana-folk-alt country group, Pawn Shop Saints.
Playing their self-described "New England Americana" that has a harder feel and less of a bluegrass influence than most Americana genres. With a new batch of dozens of new songs, PSS began performing and recording in June 2010.
After working on solo projects the past decade, the two reunited in March of 2010 to form Pawn Shop Saints, an Americana folk group centered around the award winning songwriting of Barry and O'Neill.
Barry has written over 3000 songs in his career and has had over 10,000 downloads and listens from his solo efforts. O’Neil is a multi- instrumentalist, songwriter, and studio owner.
The result is a sparse, melodic, acoustic sound not often heard in the contemporary Americana genre.
All recording were done live in Mike’s basement studio with little or no overdub. Often the songs are recorded live with two microphones, usually in one take, and they include mistakes and all are included.
No computers, Pro Tools, or Auto tuners are used, nor will they ever be. What you hear is a realness often missing from so many current artists."

1). Do you have a phobia? If yes - what?
I have no phobias at all, and no one else in the group has any obvious ones. We do dislike many things, like songs with drums mixed up too high, bad beer, and crappy PA’s

In May they played in the first part of SUPERBUS and in July they took the main stage in Jeudis du Port à Brest.

Now, with almost a complete album ready, his music has been heard on many European and USA online-radio, and campus radio-stations, including two music-videos on Youtube.

Featured Artist interview: KING CYRIS (E44)

About: KING CYRIS from USA

"In 1995, I moved to the home of the Florida Gators in Gainesville, Florida and started a rap group called Southern Spice Flavor. The University of Florida asked us to do a fight song for the football team in 1997. However, we didn't get a chance to record the song because I was forced to go on a free vacation, compliments of the Department of Justice. Shortly after the trip, I got back together with the group. We opened for Trick Daddy, J.T. Money and the Poison Clan in front of a crowd of 5,000 people, and we rocked it. The fame lasted for about 2 months, and we loved every minute of it. Shortly after that, we joined a Rock-N-Roll band named Kitchens Of Soul. Now that was something serious. We performed all over Florida from Tallahassee to South Beach with artists like Sister Hazel, Creed, Seven Dust, One Drop, The Roots, James Brown, and a show for Playboy. We became stars, but along with that came the drugs; the more we did, the deeper I got. In 1999, I clocked out of the game for minute to refocus. In 2003, I relocated to Orlando where the King was born and reunited with the second love of my life: Music."

Featured Artist interview: Sherlock Art (E42)

About: Sherlock Art from Leeds, UK
"Sherlock Art undeniable talent and lyrical dexterity has taken him to one of Jamaica’s biggest music producer, Bobby Digital, who then invited him to Kingston to his recording studio. Unfortunately he was on a very long waiting list with more well known reggae artist waiting to record songs but at the same time it was the best experience he could wish for at that time, seeing the other artist doing their work in the studio.
In 2002, he moved to the UK and worked in the industrial business while working and singing every day. Colleagues would always suggest to him to go on talent shows but Sherlock Art was never interested in doing that, he wanted to find out more about UK music and settle down to a new life in 2006. In 2009 he began recording his first official album"

About: H-O-T (Hell On The Trax)

"H-O-T (Hell On Trax) is the 1st artist from the Money Green Camp to debut with his solo, alter ego album "H-O-T in the Streets/in the Sheets." The South Florida raised artist is also the head of the Money Green Camp, an independent label and entertainment group from South Florida. He holds titles such as producer, CEO, manager, and songwriter, just to name a few. As an artist, H-O-T approaches the industry with a "more than just a rapper" view and attitude. H-O-T can be best described as a modern day southern version of L.L. Cool J mixed with 50 Cent. Although he tells tales of growing up on the mean streets of South Florida, he also unleashes sensual, seductive, “sex music” as well."

Featured Artist interview: Snew (E42)

About: Snew from Hollywood

"SNEW was formed in 2005 in Hollywood, CA by guitarist Andy Lux, singer Curtis Don Vito, bassist Cat Tate and drummer Mark Ohrenberger for the sole purpose of making the kind of hard rocking music they know and love. Bands like AC/DC, Motörhead, The Stooges, MC5, Ramones, GNR, The Cult and Kiss all smacked you in the face with raw electrified monster rock and roll. Add Snew to that list.
If it's too loud... Snew You!"

As much time as I can possibly manage (in other words – LOTS).

Featured Artist interview: MikeWhitePresents (E41)

About: MikeWhitePresents from London

"We write, produce and perform our own original music, making eclectic, pompous, melodramatic dance music with a pop sensibility for the soundtrack of our imaginations. This is music for the headphone not for the dancefloor. But if you feel the need to dance, we won't stop you. It's music so safe, you can take it home to meet your mother!"

1). How much time do you spend writing, performing, and listening to music each day?
Spend about 2/3 hours each day working on tunes..mainly writing and arranging/ lyric writing. But writing can consist of hours of fiddling just to get the right bass riff or kick eq!! Wriitng and producing, for us, are one and the same thing. Thru the process of creating the idea for a song, we find the way we want to record it. We have rarely recorded in the same way twice.
Probably spend more time listening to music than creating it!! DJ Danny never has his ipod off!!

A measure of the amount of disorder in a system

Derivative: entropic

1).How much time do you spend writing, performing, and listening to music each day?
We do little else! We run a music production partnership, so our time is taken up with composing, recording, listening (as much to our own work for quality control as to our favourite music), teaching (one of us is a cello and music theory tutor) and marketing.
