Featured Artist interview: Diomira Keane (E39)

About: Diomira Keane ,East Greenville, Pennsylvania

"Born in the foliage of nowhere in particular, Diomira Keane was raised by a family of deer who taught her how to play the keyboard and brush her teeth. She grew up disproportionate and had to leave the herd. She traveled across the world in search of the most delicious apple, but found only soggy tarts and whitewashed discrepancies. To console her aching bloody heart pump, she wrote a collection of songs."

1). Who was your hero during your childhood? And what about now?
There are so many! Buttercup from The Powerpuff Girls played a big role in my childhood; I always wanted to be like her. Now a-days I most look up to Regina Spektor, especially because she's been so instrumental in my musical inspiration.
2). How much time do you spend sleeping?
A lot. Ideally I try to get 12 hours in, plus the occasional cat nap. Yup, no lies.

3). What season of the year is the most similar to your music?
Late autumn or winter. I wrote most of the songs on Athazagoraphobia during those months, and I make a deep cerebral connection between the ambiance of those seasons and the overall feeling of most of my songs.

4). Tell us the most impressive place you have ever been to?
Venice, Italy. The sun reflects off the water and everything glows. It hurt my eyes constantly, and when I returned to the East Coast everything seemed dark. I also love the idea of a city completely surrounded by water. It's very ethereal.

5). Tell us 3 favorite things to do and 3 things you hate to do.
I like spooning with my kittens, baking cakes, and watching Woody Allen movies. I dislike figuring out tips, getting gas, and watching Woody Allen movies alone.
