Featured Artist interview: Wax Ersatz (E42)

About: Wax Ersatz

"Wax Ersatz have been together since March 2010 and have played numerous gigs around Nottingham and London. We try and stray away from writing music that sounds too generic, and try to make our songs sound different from one another. There's no point in writing the same song over and over again. Unless you're AC/DC. But what a great song that is..."

1). How much time do you spend writing, performing, and listening to music each day?
Stu - Well as I'm unemployed at the moment, most of my time goes on playing music, writing new tracks and recording.
Matthew - I am at university, so that takes up a lot of time, but I listen to music a lot and play and write when I have have some free time.

2). What does your family think about your music?
I think that both of our families are really supportive of this band. Much more supportive than when we were both in heavy bands playing drop D riffs and screaming. Our grandparents prefer Wax ersatz' music.

3). What profession did you want to have when you were a child? Did you think that you would be a musician?
Stu - I wanted to be a goalkeeper for a football team.
Matthew - I wanted to be a monster truck driver.

4). What mood is the best for you to be in for writing music?
Stu - It depends, sometimes I write music and lyrics if I'm affected by something, but other times it can just come from messing about on the guitar and thinking "that was nice, I'll work on that".
Matthew - Yeah I'd agree with that.

5). In three words, describe the emotional characteristics of your musical style.
Passionate. Cathartic. Nonsense (If that's an emotion...)
