Featured Artist interview: Russel Carl (E48)

About: Russel Carl from USA

"Like many musicians, my life in music started out at the local church choir...piano soon followed.  Along the way to San Francisco Bay, played at more places than I can remember, altho some shows stand out more than others-the usual and unusual club, warehouse, restaurant and gin joint (I miss you, Berkeley Square!), performing music therapy at Napa State Hospital for the Criminally Insane (not as a patient, ha-ha), and open mike jamming with anyone willing.   I've learned  to take life less seriously (Thanks, Fluke & FZ ),  had the priviledge of teaching children, teen-agers, old men and women how to wrestle with the guitar, taught myself how to tune a piano, been on call for the Medical Marijuana Movement, and busked in the BART tubes."

1). How would you spend a million dollars if you had it?
If I had a million dollars, I would buy a piece of property to live on, and take a nice vacation (let's not forget to donate to charity...)!

2). What was the craziest thing to happen in your life?
Selling all my possessions except for musical instrumensts, buying a used schoolbus, and heading for California!

3). What kind of message is in your music? Why or for what reason do you write music?
I would like to think my music expresses a healing quality, as so many people today seem "out-of-sorts", or just plain restless and anxious. I write music to keep myself healthy!

4). What would you do if the world was going to end in 3 hours?
Get away from the big city, and spend some quality time in the woods.

5). If you were a professional sportsman, what sport would you play?
I think (generally) every musician would like to be physically gifted, and most sports players I've talked to would like to be musically gifted. Myself, I like American football...
