Scarlet Hatchings - winners
of our weekly poll! (E100)

About: Scarlet Hatchings, progressive/alternative rock/metal band from Poland.

"The band was founded by experienced Polish musicians (ex- Sweet Noise, StrangE, Deadline), and since 2009 its members are: Seba (voice), Qba (guitar), Szopa (drums), Mateo (bass). In 2011 The band released their debut EP “InHuman Race” and made a video for the track “Sincerely Yours”"

1. How did you choose the name for your band? Was it an easy process? Were there any arguments between band members?
A band-naming process is usually very stupid, yet intense. Everyone has a hundred of ideas - each of them is the best, but only for the inventor. We were sitting in a room full of red hatchings on the wall - at some point someone shouted (in Polish of course): "This isn't going anywhere! We could as well name ourselves: Red Hatchings!" We translated it into English, changed Red into Scarlet and... voila!

Moresome - independent
rock band from Austria (E99)

About: Moresome, remarkable group from Vienna

"Ranging from Beatle-esque britpop sounds to electronic indie style, Moresome spans a wide bridge but still keep Founded in 2008, we are influenced by Bowie, Brubeck and a tad of Coldplay.ing its own distinct sound. We are based in Vienna, Austria."

1. How did you choose the name for your band? Was it an easy process? Were there any arguments betwend members?
We had HUGE arguments about the name. It ended up with a list containing 70+ names, each one of us with his own favorite. It took us 4 weeks to decide for Moresome. At the time it wasnt even the favorite of either one of us. It was the only name that all five of us thought wasnt too bad. But then we got to like it, although we got (and still get) a lot of jokes regarding the sexual insinuation of the name (for example do a google image search -> we definately need to work on this ;-)

"L'art est une nécessité désespérée et l'artiste n'est autre que l'expression de ce désespoir..."

1. How did you choose your singer name? Was it an easy process?
The process of choosing my singer name took a long time. I had to find a symbol to express contradictions. So, i've chosen a lengendary couple, who, loving each other, committed, in their acts, the complete opposit of theirs feelings...
People, World, History, Science... go forward progressing by using opposit pole... It's the same for my own music! So, why Ronny? It's a long story... Guys! Lol

Well we knew each other from school and decided to form a band. Our bassist Jed couldn't play bass when we first started, but as we practised and practised we all got better at our instruments, got better at writing songs, got better at performing and got tighter as a band. So far it's been a brilliant experience playing at famous clubs like the Cavern Club and we hope that there's more to come!

Omnibox - alternative/jazz, USA (E98)

About: Omnibox, cool quartet from Omaha

"Omni box is made up of Mary Pennisi who has spent her life dedicated to the arts from her intoxicating voice, to her ability to mold and move through any artistic medium.
Trent Guthrie a man with a musical style unique to his own. With little to no background in theory and never having any lessons, Trent has mastered the guitar, piano, banjo, and just about anything with strings. His dedication to learning and pushing himself musically is something that sets him apart from most.
Jason Horacek specializes in percussion and flute, and has an extensive background with events such Loom, yoga rocks the park, drumming for bellydance performances and groups like African Culture Connection, Djem, Aetherplough, Flowpulse, Akita Mani Yo, Blue Martian Tribe, just to name a few. He has a true love for his music and his ability to see between the rhythms as he lays down very intricate and pulsing percussions and delightful melodies on the flute.
Also, Jadams who comes from a very long extensive life in the music industry from working and playing with such artist as Karl Denson, K23 orchestra, and guava belly to name a few. He, like the other members in the band has spent his life dedicated to music and art.
Omni Box has been lucky to work with other artists from time to time, such the infamous player Ben Brockway and our stand in guitarist, Jamison Figueroa."

1). If you had a chance to be in a movie, what movie and what part would you choose?
Mary: I would have to choose the role of Elizabeth, in the movie 'Young Frankenstein'. Madeline Kahn is absolutely amazing in the role. I'm not saying I could do better, but it would be a role in which both comedy and music take place.
Jason: Blade Runner, Decker (the character played by Harrison Ford.)
Joe: If I had to be in a movie, I would probably Choose Val Kilmer in Sultan Sea. That movie is by far one of my favorites, and i love the patience and the think outside of the box mentality that Val Kilmer portrays.

Sonia Montez - singer songwriter, USA (E98)

About: Sonia Montez, talented artist from Brooklyn

"Sonia Montez is Singer-Songwriter from Brooklyn, her songs echoing her adoration of humanity and myriad of experience. Influenced by Ella Fitzgerald, Paul Simon, and Mercedes Sosa to name a few, her knack for phrasing and harmonization is captivating. She began her musical career at age 6, joining El Coro de Ninos de San Juan, the world renowned children’s choir. Studying voice and violin, she eventually tired of rote classical training, and set out to teach herself the guitar. She emerged as a songwriting force, dazzling audiences and busy crafting her next masterpiece."

1). If you had a chance to be in a movie, what movie and what part would you choose?
I have zero acting chops so hopefully that will never happen. I am a big fan of funny buddy action movies and I don't think there are ones where chicks are the main protagonists so if there is ever a Bridesmaids meets Pineapple Express (or Shaun of the Dead) type of flick being made, I'd like a cameo in that.

The Maybes - winners of September from New York

Two weeks ago we have announced our September winners - cool band "The Maybes" from New York.

And the main prize in this poll was a featured interview with the winner!
So, here it is!
Check out the very interesting and extended answers to our questions by the band "The Maybes"! Enjoy!

1). Please tell us the story of your band. When and how did you meet, and what really got the band going?
We've all been friends since way back when, but our band formed roughly four years ago. Three of us were living in the city and began messing around, jamming for fun, and coming up with a few rough tunes. It was great timing that Charles moved back to New York from California at that early stage. He jumped in the line-up, and added a much fuller sound to what we already had. That's when we really started to connect as a band.

Stone Kings - Hard Rock,UK (E95)

About: Stone Kings, extremly talented british band.

“Stone Kings is a rock band with a difference... Fusing an array of rock and metal influences, Stone Kings deliver a fresh take on heavy music the likes of which hasn’t been seen in some time. With artfully structured songs containing riffs that stir your blood and lyrics that take you on a journey, listening to this band is like getting high without the drugs! Having heard an advance copy of their soon to be released self-titled debut and caught a couple of live shows, this reviewer can honestly say that Stone Kings are very likely to be playing some of the major music festivals next year. This is the band to keep your eye on folks, so watch this space...”
Steve Seger, Music Minute

1). If you had a chance to be in a movie, what movie and what part would you choose?
Gav : Terminator 5. I'd like to be a Terminator!
Dom : The Hangover!
Gary : Id have to say Marty McFly from back to the future. Its one of my favourite films from my childhood, and being able to travel between past and future in the DeLorean would be awesome!
Gregg : Raoul Duke in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, or Jeff Lebowski in The Big Lebowski, who's character kinda fits how my life really is.

"I have recored the "Horseless saddle" album early this year in purpose of placing some of the songs as soundtracks in movies after a music producer listend to my demos and requested me to prepare him a CD with high quality tracks for a Miramax production that will be released early 2012. So, during the recording, seeing the songs come alive with real musicians, I have decided to create Balinade in order to play these songs live, and currently we are working on the "Horseless saddle" tour which will be ready at the begining of 2012, and will also be accompanied by a video art which I am currently working on. So it's going to be a very intresting show..."

1). If you had a chance to be in a movie, what movie and what part would you choose?
My favorite director is Akira Korasawa, and if I had to choose one part, I would choose to be in "Throne of blood" where the hero encounter the forest witch (Makbet style). It's a very emotinal piece putting together all the best things in Korasawa work.

Clipper - Folk/Indie/Rock, Italy (E94)

About: Clipper, cool folk rock band from Ancona

"Clipper was born in December 2006 and is an evolution of Arroyo, folk-rock band formed in 1996. Arroyo has recorded three albums: "Freddy Malins'(2001)," In The Nick Of Time "(2002) and" Old Fishmarket Close "(2005). The debut album of Clipper is "Make My Day", recorded in 2007 and the author of most of the songs, both in Clipper and in Arroyo, is Lorenzo Romagnoli. The only difference between the two bands is the "cure" of sound recordings of Clipper, more faithful to the vision of what is extemporaneous, the story of a dream while you are living it.The trend in rock and roll, then it is essential, but captured at its source, as it comes out from the songs of Hank Williams."

1). What is the best time of the day for you to compose your music?
Early afternoon, especially on a cloudy day.

Junction23 - Alternative/Rock, UK (E94)

About: Junction23 , cool trio from Wigan

"We're a 3 piece Alternative/Rock band from Wigan. We've played around Wigan, Bolton, Liverpool and Lymm at places from the Indiependence Club to the Cavern Club.
We're always looking for gigs and we always get a massive buzz after playing on stage. We aren't just motivated by money, but by making music that we enjoy playing and hopefully putting on a great show and meeting class people. We've already met plenty of bands from gigs we've played, and we've even played with the band Pegasus Bridge. It's all good.
We're always practising and writing new stuff, and hopefully we'll progress to be more well known. Who knows? We'll take it as it comes and just enjoy what we do."

1). What is the best time of the day for you to compose your music?
I don't think there's a particular time, it's more when I'm in the right mood, have the right inspiration and I'm not in school. Sometimes when I'm lying in bed I can write riffs in my head randomly and then I work them out on the guitar, though they don't always sound as good as they did in my head.

Regiment - Indie/Rock, UK (E93)

About: Regiment, cool band from Glasgow

"A rock/indie whirlwind marrying solid riffs, inspiring lyrics and furious energy.Don't miss out on their fast paced high energy sets...a real live treat!"

1). What is the best time of the day for you to compose your music?
I would say at night is the best time to compose music. As a band we put our songs together mainly at that time and night is by far and away the most interesting time of the day. That's when the most eccentric characters come out to play.

2). If you could choose, in what country and in what century would you like to live?
Britain during the Second World War. It's so ingrained in our collective psyche that it would be fascinating to actually experience that era.

1). What is the best time of the day for you to compose your music?
I normally find I'm at my most creative night time, early hours of the morning however creativity has known to come along at other times as well
