Featured Artist interview: Voice Of Addiction (E52)

About: Voice Of Addiction from Chicago

"Voice Of Addiction takes on the attitude the the punk rock revolution instilled in us, but infuses it with genre-mashing breakdowns. Sometimes described as a "unique refreshing slant to the rock world." Voice Of Addiction's members put their distinct personalities and experiences into the instruments they play and the music they write. V.O.A.'s music has an immense presence that builds tension and releases it at the most opportune times."

1. How would you spend a million dollars if you had it?
We have never played outside of North America. I would use this as the starting platform for a world tour. I can't speak for the rest of the guys, but for me travelling and playing music live for people are the two best things in the world. I feel privileged to be able to do as much of both as I do. I have never been to most of the world, and what a better way to do it.

2. What was the craziest thing to happen in your life?
Well a recent event, not even a month ago. We were heading north to Chicago after some shows with the truck and the trailer with all our gear and merch. That ridiculous arctic blast came through. Bringing 60mph winds and pure white out conditions. In the midst of this we blew our transmission. So here we are on the shoulder of a major highway only able to see 5 feet in front of us. As cars and trucks come within inches sometimes of the car, and you don't even see them but for a split second. All we could do is buckle up, keep our fingers crossed and wait for them to lift the tow ban. It was a fun day.

3. What kind of message is in your music? Why or for what reason do you write music?
We are a politically charged and socially conscious band. We believe in sustainability, rationality, responsibility, and well basically just being cool to each other.I feel like if people are gonna take the time to listen to me sing, I better have something more important to say. Music isn't a choice, it is all around us and inherent in all of nature. I take this muse to create my own expression.

4. What would you do if the world was going to end in 3 hours?
The usual, booze, drugs, prostitutes and rock and roll

5. If you were a professional sportsman, what sport would you play?
Terradome, two men enter one man leaves
