Featured Artist interview: Anhedonia (E56)

About: Anhedonia from Mexico

"Led by composers Omar Torres (singer-bassist) and Jorge Hill (Keyboardist), Anhedonia started in Mexico City around 1998 as a classic doom - black metal band called "Dark Faerytales". The band dissolved, reunited and switched musicians constantly during 10 years, leaving long periods of time without any activity. In 2007 Omar and Jorge decided to take the band one step further, trying to find permanent musicians and taking the band out of their "studio only" status, finding guitar player Erick Solis and drummer Ricardo Quintana and changing their name to "Anhedonia". After two years of constant live performances and releasing the independent EP "Something missing" Omar and Ricardo decided to leave the band, replaced by singer JC Cuevas, bassist Fernando Estrada and playing live over drum tracks. Currently, the band is evolving to a more open progressive and post-rock / post-metal sound and planning the recording and release of their first full album."

1). If you had to choose, in what country and at what time would you want to live?
I went a couple of years ago to Barcelona, Spain, and just fell in love with the place, its culture and arts. I would love to live there, maybe Sweden too, some great and gorgeous rocker chicks over there, but hell, its cold over there. The time, now. Not really a romantic looking for the past.

2). What is your favorite month and why?
I don´t have a favorite month or day, i have the belief that every day is the same and you just make the best of it... i kinda like my birthday, november 16 because of the presents and the partying.

3). At what time of the day do you usually prefer to write your music?
Im a writer and scriptwriter too, i have a fixation for creating after 11 pm and during all night, ending just before the sun comes out. I like the calm and quiet, no phones ringing, no sounds, no brats running around on the streets etc... it just brings me the focus i need to compose music or to write.

4).What is your favorite instrument and why?
I like guitars and drums, i play a bit of drums too, but my favorite is the keyboard, they offer this incredible range of sounds and textures, effects and possibilities that no other instrument will give you. And i just love pushing buttons, switches, moving knobs and editing everything until it sounds just the way i like it.

5).What is your favorite drink?
Beer, always and forever! cheers!
