Featured Artist interview: The Freys (E67)

About: The Freys from Redwood Valley, USA

"The Freys are currently performing as a quartet with the musical styling of Daniel Frey on lead vocals and guitar, and the occasional banjo, ukelele, accordion, or piano in the mix. The Freys have released three albums, the self-titled first album, The Freys, the second release, People are Sacred, and their most recent addition, Here: Inner Silence. Daniel’s brother Sam Frey performs on the stand-up bass, and adds harmony vocals to the Frey brothers’ arrangements. Soul brother, Agustin del Norte has joined them on the drums and harmony vocals, and Mori Natura (Daniel’s wife) plays on the mandola, with high harmony vocals."

1). What musical instrument is the wildest/most fun to play on (from your point of view)?
We all play multiple instruments, but find that the voice is the best instrument, because you can bring it anywhere with you!

2). What has been the biggest challenge in your life?
The biggest challenges are the biggest opportunities for growth; so, in the darkness, there is a seed of light.

3). What song you can listen to again and again?
We're heavily influenced by Paul Simon, so many of his world-fusion songs are inspiration for our tunes.

4). What is your favorite feature on R&R?
We're new to R&R, but we love that we can access music and share music so readily.

5). If you could ask one question to the leader of your country, what would it be?
How can we move forward as a country together, so that we all have our needs met?
