Featured Artist interview: Brad Surovec (E71)

About: Brad Surovec from Nashville, USA

...I started to focus on learning guitar and vocals in 1974 as I became acquainted with the music group Shadowfax. Keith Hinton, the lead guitarist, was my first music mentor. My brother Jim and I eventually started a band of our own called Windchange, I played guitar and sang lead vocals and Jim played bass. As time progressed my focus moved primarily to lead vocals covering bands like Aerosmith, Hall & Oats, Boston, Led Zepplin etc. I started writing music in the mid 70’s and in the late 70’s spent a year touring professionally with the band Slave. We also toured with the Commodores , The Emotions, Bootsy’s Rubber Band, Ohio Players, and the O’Jays to name a few. Over the years I played in many different bands but certain muscians had a profound effect on my music foundation. Kevin Gwin being one of them who is an amazing lead guitarist and great friend...

1).What do you think will happen to music in 50 years?
It seems almost crazy to me what will happen in the next 50 years, I hear all kinds of music minds from true to the pure sound of instruments and voice to the other side of the universe with electronic synth and love it all. Add in technology and it is limit less. Some how it all connects to diffent people or different states of mood for all of us.

2).What are the main difficulties for being a musician in your country?
I think we all want more than we can reasonably have which puts us in financial danger and we loose the freedom to be who we really are.

3).Would you like your children to become musicians, just like you do? Why yes or why not?
Yes, but each of us are wired for different things. I just want them to love what they do.

4).What is the instrument of your dream? (type/brand/model)
I love playing Taylor Guitars but my taste is above my pay grade for now, lol.

5).If you could raise one music idol from the dead – who would it be?
Well if it was for the purpose of spending the day with them and getting to know them it would be 2- Elvis and Michael Jackson.
