Featured Artist interview: Fake Elegance (E72)

About: Fake Elegance from Ukraine

"Fake Elegance creatively combine modern electronic-synth sounding with expressive and, at the same time, lyrical piano roulades, energetic guitar riffs and charming sexy female pop vocals. All of the above makes their songs gentle but positively energetic at the same time, as well as close to each and every person on the globe.Evoking pleasant and nostalgic memories, the sounds of rock’n’roll and modern pop-rock organically merged in the music of the band. This created a stylistic blend, unusual but magnetic for wide audience. The record industry specialists already introduce Fake Elegance as the best dramatic pop-rock band which is tipped for big and outstanding future."

1).What do you think will happen to music in 50 years?
Well, 50 years is quite a long time period and one should be really brave to make any forecasts. Hardly someone 50 years ago could predict what will happen to music by 2011; e.g., that all stuff will move to the Internet. The music will surely keep evolving like it has been doing during past 50 years. But we hope that, whatever happens to music by that time, people will still love making good live music and going to live shows.

2). What are the main difficulties for being a musician in your country?
There’s no anything close to what is called “show business” in Ukraine. There are too few venues where musicians can play and tour, while only well-known or cover bands are paid for gigs. Also, there’s no ability to sell records – the piracy is pretty strong. And the music instruments are much more expensive here if compared to level of living.

3). Would you like your children to become musicians, just like you do? Why yes or why not?
Probably not, because a musician as a profession is not really respected and supported in Ukraine. It’s pretty difficult to be a musician here.

4). What is the instrument of your dream? (type/brand/model)
If it’s guitar, then it’s Fender Telecaster ’52. If it’s a bass, then it’s Musicman. Others at Fake Elegance are either too secret or too satisfied with their instruments :)

5). If you could raise one music idol from the dead – who would it be?
Probably, Rick Wright – to have a chance to see all guys from Pink Floyd playing together again at least once.
