The Fakes - Alternative / Shoegaze / Dreampop, Australia (ArenaCast E80)

About: very cool band The Fakes from Melbourne

"...Continuing to recreate the sounds of bands such as Mazzy Star and My Bloody Valentine the fakes set out to build an audience on Melbourne's local scene; only interrupting a busy live schedule to record the follow up Ep "Little Deaths." This release was sonically a leap forward.
The album "I Know you are Smiling Because you are Asleep" was released late 2008; and 2009 in Japan through Happy Prince Records. In 2011 the fakes second album will be released. The album shows a continued metamorphosis and features guest artists from all over the world. Having guested on four tracks on the album singer Vanessa Wawrusak has become a permanent member of the fakes..."

1). What track/album/artist gives you the most summer mood?
I spoke to the guys about this one and everyone changed their answer every five minutes. Nes(singer)would definitely say anything by Mariah Carey; Pete(bass) would have John Frusciante records playing; Ben(drums); not sure what Ben is into at the moment-just tried to call him but didn't get an answer. For myself i would have to say Elvis-in particular Hound Dog. I could imagine hanging out in 50's America.

2). If you could choose any place on Earth – where would you spend your summer vacation?
I've driven around the U.S a few times on road trips and Ben has toured North America with another band so I think we'd definitely be up for a summer vacation touring the band through the U.S-starting in New york. We'd definitely take some time out in the Carolinas.

3). Summer is the time for music festivals. What festivals have you visited/played/want to play?
Between all of us we've covered most things in Australia-Big Day out; Soundwave; Come together; Earthcore; the Falls Festival; Groovin the Moo; Parklife; Pushover; Summerdayze; V festival etc. Pete goes to most of them although I know Nes and I don't particularly enjoy it. For me there's just to much pressure to be organized so you catch everything you want to. As a band we're yet to make the list to actually appear on a festival bill but we're hoping that when the new album comes out it will bring us to the attention of festival organizers.

4).The most remarkable summer in music history?
Probably the mother of all summers would have to be the summer of 69 -Wood stock baby!'Everyone with any sense got the hell out of there the minute the party was over.
You wouldn't catch Roger Daltry with a hoover (vacuum Cleaner) cleaning up after Woodstock

5).What are the best things to do in summer as for you?
At the moment it's winter here in Australia and with trying to finish the album we have no money; so we really can't afford to turn the heat on in the apartment I share with Nes. So really the best thing about summer to look forward to for us is knowing that we aren't going to freeze to death; and we can walk around the house without having to wear a blanket.
