Season of Change: the last 2012 episode and the ArenaCast overhaul

Dear ArenaCast friends! Our team would like to inform you that the ArenaCast episode #118 marks the end of ArenaCast episodes as you know them. We will be kicking off 2013 with a re-mastered, re-organized and totally re-branded podcast. It's really going to be something so stay tuned!

Every ArenaCast episode was unique due to its vast genres, diversity, accent etc. The ArenaCast E118 is a revision of some of the best acts of the year, bringing back familiar sounds of previously featured bands, but with their fresh new tracks. This episode concludes our musical journey with you, and includes the bands' short farewells, feedback about our podcast and the news they would like to share with all music lovers! Here they are…

Rebel Android

Rebel Android, the band from far-away Norway is currently producing a third release, 'The Expanding Divide', which will be ready sometime in 2013. The band is also aiming to get ready for some live gigs early 2013.

From Rebel Android to ArenaCast: “We have really enjoyed learning about the ArenaCast podcast in 2012, checking out cool artists and are grateful to be featured in it ourselves! Thanks, we appreciate it. Happy holidays and new year to staff and listeners from Rebel Android!”

Aqualash

Aqualash is a cool Sydney based band, whose musical style embraces trip-hop, dream-pop, alternative, atmospheric, gothic-Jazz, and a little bit of grunge.

From Aqualash to ArenaCast: Here is what Aqualash said about ArenaCast on their facebook page: “ArenaCast is an excellent podcast, and we're really happy to be included in their playlist for episode 118 - the last for 2012. There is always a very cool and diverse selection of music to be found here, so check them out!
Thank you ArenaCast!”

Anodine

Expect an album from this cool German band very soon! 16 tracks - a total of 80 minutes of music is now in the mastering process. Patrick (vocals) promises plenty of news soon, but currently, they're in a phase of preparation. Anodine had also recently posted a reedited version of their video!
Check it out!

Remove Silence

This hot Brazilian band announces that at the moment they are mixing their upcoming EP, which is to be released in late January. They still don't have a name for it, but it will consist of 7 tracks, four of which are unreleased. The other tracks are more than remixes - they are in fact completely new versions of songs from their latest album. Also, Remove Silence is working on another new version of one of the tracks from S.H.A., which will feature analog synthesizers exclusively.
This track will be released with an official video as well.

From Remove Silence to ArenaCast: "We are constantly tuned in on ArenaCast, and we think everybody should do it as well. There are lots of PodCasts out there presenting new artists, but only a few where you can actually get to know new artists with high degrees of musical quality.
Long live ArenaCast! Hugs from Brazil!!!"

Grassfight

The New York based band Grassfight is currently writing and recording a lot of new songs. These New York-ers claim that their new tracks are sounding pretty different and have a whole new vibe with a bigger sound than their previous music. Grassfight is excited to get them out, but jokingly remark that they take forever with the recording process. Nathan (Guitar/Vox ) vaguely says that 2013-2014 should be an exciting time for Grassfight.

From Grassfight to ArenaCast: “ArenaCast is one of my favorite sources for new music. The focus seems to be on finding and promoting music that is legitimately good regardless of status, genre, or location. And it's almost always music I've never heard before. We really appreciate the support. It means a lot coming from such a cool podcast.”

Singleton

The fantastic Ukrainian, Kyiv based band is very proud to inform that in November 2012, Singleton won 1st place at the Eurock Marathon festival in Berlin. Currently they are working on a new LP which is planned to be released early 2013. This new album is being mixed by the famous UK producer Barny Barnicott (Kasabian, Arctic Monkeys). We can`t wait to hear the new album!

From Singleton to ArenaCast: “We would like to say thank you to the ArenaCast team for their amazing support of independent music! It really means a lot! We have discovered lots of incredible, talented bands from all over the world and we are very proud to be featured in several ArenaCast episodes together with these cool artists!”

Slim and Red: indie rock/folk duo from Corry, PA, US (E117)

About: Slim and Red

Slim and Red: indie rock/folk duo from Corry, PA, US played in E117 of the ArenaCast

"We both separately played music early in our teenage years, but never played together until we were 10 years deep into our marriage. We are also HUGE comic book and JRR Tolkien nerds, so you will most always find many references and easter eggs in our music/art/lyrics. Simply put: we are a geeky married couple that play music!"

1. How would you describe your average fan?
Our average fans are mostly in between the ages of 20 and 35. However, that may be the majority, but the ages range quite drastically. All in all, we attract fans that are laid back, chill, and open to many possibilities. We try to create, promote, and encourage individuality, thought and creativity. Our first album was named Issue No. 1: Yggdrasil because we believe we are all bound together through cosmic and universal laws, and we believe our fans catch that vibe.

Behind Babylon: alternative/hard rock trio from Denver, CO, US (E117)

About: Behind Babylon

Behind Babylon: alternative/hard rock trio from Denver, CO, US played in E117 of the ArenaCast

"...We've lived with "saints" and we've lived with the "sinners."In the words of the great philosopher and poet Bob Dylan,"Lot of water under the bridge, lot of other stuff too, don't get up gentlemen, I'm only passing through." That's the way we see it... You don't need to get up, we are only passing through. Our music is about our experiences and the way we express those experiences. We believe we have lived in Babylon and Behind Babylon... That is how we created the band name."

1. How would you describe your average fan?
Since we have only began recording and have only released “She still believes” it’s hard to say what an average fan would be at the moment. We hope to gain better than average fans and look forward to the opportunity to create fans we can really connect with. Our upcoming releases will show that we want a diverse fan base. We’ll be mixing many different genres into our own style of rock and roll. The interest we have seen have been in college age students.

Another Life Spared: alternative rock / metal band from Cocoa, FL, US (E115)

About: Another Life Spared

Another Life Spared: six piece alternative rock/metal formation from Cocoa, Florida, US played in E115 of the ArenaCast

"The band was originally called All Is Lost back in 2010. At the time, we were running through EP titles and the name Another Life Spared came up and we thought it would be cool to have a dichotomy effect with the name All Is Lost. Some time had passed, and the name All Is Lost started to look really dim and tasteless. It didn’t stand out and draw attention. So we decided it was time to change the band name to something a little less cliché’. The name Another Life Spared came back up in conversation as a possible band name. It was laughed off at first, but once we started bringing it up more and more it started to stick. It stood out, it was easy to remember, and it grabbed people’s attention. And it still kept the dichotomy effect with the seemingly upbeat band name Another Life Spared vs. the dark song themes and lyrics. Eventually, we all agreed that Another Life Spared was a really good match for us and the name was set."

The band have two front vocalists, and the 1st question is answered by both of them. The rest of the questions are being answered from the band as a whole.

1. Is there a story behind your song "Cataclysm"?
Jennifer: Cataclysm is about how society is falling apart and the world with it. Its as if everyone is become de-sensitized to all of the terrible things that are taking place. Just look at the news and how things have become. Corruption and decay are everywhere. It seems like no one stands up for what's right anymore and its become brother against brother. We need to come together. Stand for something and not fall for anything.

D. Hayes: My connection with Cataclysm is political, as to say " I will not bow down " I'm saying just that, its the world of fire breathing elephants "politicians" and the people who think they own it can not and will not destroy me

Six to the Wheels: southern rock four piece from Atlanta, GA, US (E116)

About: Six to the Wheels

Six to the Wheels: southern rock four piece from Atlanta, GA, US played in E116 of the ArenaCast

"When referencing horse power, you have horse power to the wheels. Aaron "A-WAL" used to have a Camaro with 600 hps to the rear wheels. The girl he was with at the time totaled it, so the band is named as a tribute."

1. Is there a story behind your song "Fists Instead of Hands"?
We have a friend who is an MMA fighter. He as about to have his first fight so we decided to write him a walkout song. Well just about that time, he was in a motorcycle accident and lost one of his legs below the knee. He decided to continue to pursue MMA and is now the only MMA fighter commissioned to fight with a prosthetic leg. The song is about pushing through an obstacle and we wrote it for him.

Sam Rogers: indie pop/rock solo act from Birmingham, UK (E116)

About: Sam Rogers

Sam Rogers: acoustic/indie/pop solo artist from Birmingham, UK played in E116 of the ArenaCast

"My band isn't set at the moment. I work with lots of different musicians, however the ones I work with best are featured on the track! We had so much fun working together and recording, they're very talented guys. The song is about the frustration of a long distance relationship however it is not a negative song... Just a very frustrated one! :D"

1. Is there a story behind your song "Unseen"?
Yes! The song is about my own relationship. It's a long distance relationship, so the song is about that really! It's very frustrating to be so far apart and only able to communicate on the phone/computer.

Buzzy Lao: London, UK based singer songwriter (E116)

About: Buzzy Lao

Buzzy Lao: London based singer songwriter played in E116 of the ArenaCast

"My stage name is the one i used as member of a forum of poets! That was so funny and different that i choosed to pick it up for my musical career."

1. Is there a story behind your song "No Space"?
Yes actually i wrote that song on a piano, which is quite unusual to me as i always write on the guitar. I just put my fingers there and the first beat came out, I thought "I got something here!". So I kept playing and the all song appeared. Usually I write lyrics after making the music, letting me inspire by that. No Space talks about the future in a positive way, it talks about that moment in which after the end of a relationship you realise it's time to look forward instead of keeping locking back

"I only started working on this solo project at the end of this summer after a 5 year break from music, so as of yet, it's really just been a case of sitting at home writing and practicing my singing again! That being said, I have almost finished writing this debut Album and look forward to a busy year in 2013 recording, promoting and gigging the new material."

1. Is there a story behind your song "A Means To An End"?
Revealing the inner meanings of my songs is something I like to avoid. I prefer the listener to lock onto whatever it is that the song means to them. This one is pretty obvious though! The song is a metaphor for failing relationships. Also it was written around the time of the latest James Bond hype. Apparently, this is a Bond theme tune!

Muzykoterapia: retro/nu-jazz/chill out band from Poland (E115)

The brief interview with Iza Kowalewska, singer\front of Muzykoterapia

Muzykoterapia: downtempo/retro/nu-jazz/chill out band from Poland played in E115 of the ArenaCast

"...Iza, who sings in our band graduated in Musicology. She has a diploma in Music Therapy. As you know function of Music Therapy is simply to use sounds for therapy. After concideration we discovered that it would be a great name for our band..."

1. Is there a story behind your song "Komedia"?
Yes it is! Frankly speaking lots of my songs come to my mind during housework like: cleaning, mopping, cooking or for instance cutting herrings :) :) :) You would like to know how it was with Komedia?
It was a freeze morning and I was watering plants on the porch. I looked out the window and saw snowflakes sparkling in the sun. Single sounds in my mind started to cerate a melody with words in the same time. This is a song that came out of that.
When I played it to Kuba Galiński (pianist in our band) he liked it a lot and arranged a melody. You may think, I'm freaky or maybe you would like to hear a different story, but it was just like that! I am always very honest in my life as well as my music.

1. Is there a story behind your song "Hot Mama"?
Yes, the song is dedicated to my mom. I wrote one for my dad when he passed away (Only Rain) but he couldn't hear no more all the love I had for him, so I wrote one for my mother, where I thank her to be there for me all the time. She's been a so good mom and she still is.

The 5 Reasons To Be Featured In The Podcasts

5 reasons to be featured in the podcast

I am a musician! How can I increase my audience?
Imagine that the long-awaited moment has come: your songs are recorded and mixed, and you decide to share them with potential listeners. As a result, the pages are already created in social media networks, your friends sign up for updates, listen, share and comment on your music. Thus, attracting the attention of other people and the chain starts. Sooner or later, you face the question: "How do I increase the number of listeners and followers?"

What about the audio podcast? Do they can help you to promote your music?
At least once in our live, we managed to listen to audio podcasts. Usually, we have an idea of what it is. Let’s have a look at audio podcasts and why they help you to promote your music.

The Hudson Super 6: dark'n'dirty porno blues rock from Derby, UK (E115)

About: The Hudson Super 6

The Hudson Super 6: dark 'n' dirty porno blues rock from Derby, UK played in E115 of the ArenaCast

"It’s an old American car, The Hudson Super 6. It’s big, it’s loud and it drinks a lot of fuel. Just like us."

1. Is there a story behind your song "Heartbreakin'"?
Oh yes!!!! We don't write 'theoretical songs' about what it would like to... or how you would feel if.... All lyrics are based on real occurrences and actually happened.
I was working for a company on a site that 400+ people depended upon for their livelihood. This one particular ‘boss’ guy would occasionally visit to bask in the reflected glow of our excellent performance. He would tell us how great we were and how ‘safe’ we were and how he wanted us to grow. Then he stopped showing up and not long after that, over the phone, shut us down! He lied. He lied a lot, and was a complete tool to say the least. I guess I got the last laugh as a few years later a report I had to write about him (different job) got him fired as he was a shyster! It’s good to know that sometimes, just sometimes, bad things happen to bad people. What goes around...

Eycromon: wave/goth act from Augsburg, Germany (E114)

About: Eycromon

Eycromon: synth pop\wave\goth act from Augsburg, Germany played in E114 of the ArenaCast

"Eycromon (EYe - CROss - MoON) emblematizes three coherent levels:
The Cross stands for the union of complementary extremes, may it be heaven and earth, life and death, beginning and end - cornerstones of every human's life.
But it also stands for the inside and outside (macrocosm and microcosm):
Beauteousness and truth, which we try to satisfy with our awareness of aesthetics and profundity.
The Moon mirrors this duality into every space of change and time. It stands for an infinity that we long for and that holds us in our duality.
The controlling glance of the observer (the Eye) rests on these two. It alone weighs the seen and gives eternity or expiration."
