The Cheek of Her: unsigned alternative pop\rock act from London, UK (E109)

About: The Cheek of Her

The Cheek of Her: alternative\pop\rock act from London, UK played in E109 of the ArenaCast.

Read and enjoy a brief interview with Helen Dooley, a great singer-songwriter also known as The Cheek of Her from London, UK, who has a remarkable talent to enrich the wonderful poetry with beautiful and original music, and whose haunting vocals graced the 109th episode of the ArenaCast.

1. How do you see yourself in 5 years? What is your main goal as an artist?
5 years older! I hope to be making a career out of music by that stage in some capacity, but it's also a bit of luck. Whatever happens I'll just strive to be happy!

2. Can you name some peculiarities that define the music scene in your town/country?
There are lots of opportunities to gig all around London, so there's a big temptation to play all the venues every week when you start out! However the promoters aren't happy when you do that, because you don't bring enough people if you gig so often.

3. What do you think of episode 109? Which of the other featured songs do you like the most?
I enjoyed the mix of Rock - Metal - Alternative in episode 109! I think I was the only female lead vocal included (so I always like that!). "Death by Monkeys" by Subject Matter definitely woke me up this morning!

4. Is there a story behind your song "27"?
I wrote "27" the day after Amy Winehouse died. The sentiment of the song is clear, it's just questioning why so many great Musicians die before they reach all that they can be. "The 27 Club" or "Club 27" is this imaginary club / cult all the Musicians who have died at this age are part of.

5. Please share your nearest plans. What are you currently working on?
I have a 5 track EP coming out after the Summer called "Megaphonic" it's quite an epic EP in my opinion - bigger, louder, fuller and I'm really trying to make a statement about coming back with a 2nd EP that will make you sit up and take notice (hence "Megaphonic" as the title!). Please keep up to date with updates on The Cheek of Her website.
