About: Black Oak
"...Black symbolizes the darkness and melancholy in music - the negative which means that the positive can exist and appear. Oak stands for
organic, natural and magical - the earthy place where you often find insights, under the oak."
1. How do you see yourself in 5 years? What is your main goal as a band?
In five years (which is a hell of a long time and it´s hard to speculate about the future) we have released 3 albums and maybe 2 EPs. We have our music as day jobs and are touring a lot all over the world.
Our main goal is just to do what we do, and the biggest most important thing is that we can make a living through music.
In that way we will have more time to write awesome songs and spread love instead of being a part of the wage slavery.
2. Can you name some peculiarities that define the music scene in your town/country?
What I really like is that there is so many driven metal bands at the moment trying to break and so many of them have a genuine sound of their own. Even if the genre is Hardcore, metal, metalcore or whatever, so many bands have a unique, original twist to it. We don´t have so many stereotypical American copy/paste posthardcore acts, instead it´s done with a twist of northern melancholy and darkness, which I really enjoy.
3. What do you think of episode 112? Which of the other featured songs do you like the most?
I´ll love the speaker and his laid back style, and the variety of the bands and genres.
The band we liked the most where definitely Remove Silence.
4. Is there a story behind your song "How does it feel to live like it's too late"?
I think it was the second song we wrote, together as a band. It´s a song I really enjoy playing live. It has the energy, the melancholy and the melodies. The song was easy to write. It wrote it self so to speak, we just tagged along.
The lyrics are about how lost you can get in this harsh civilized machinery we live in. And the only way to find your way back to life and to who you really are is to fully feel what you feel and open yourself up to the world. You don´t have a life, you are life. Just let go so to speak and realize that there is no prison walls here. Be present and don´t be afraid to take a leap of faith on an everyday basis.
5. Please share your nearest plans. What are you currently working on?
Right now we are working hard to complete our debut album. It will be beautiful and intense.
We don’t have a record-deal or anything but that will work out for itself if we just do what we do, are honest to ourselves and live in the now.
