Remove Silence: alternative rock quartet from São Paulo, Brazil (E112)

About: Remove Silence

Remove Silence: alternative rock quartet from São Paulo, Brazil played in E112 of the ArenaCast

"It was a bit hard to come up with a good name, and it was when we were already recording our first album. It was recorded on Cakewalk Sonar, which has a function on one of its edit menus called Remove Silence. Ale, the bass player, was scrolling through the menu looking for something else and considered the name interesting. It was suggested and immediately accepted, because its a strong name and it impose some of the thoughts of the band on its own."

1. How do you see yourself in 5 years? What is your main goal as a band?
We have absolutely no defined directions to follow music-wise, so its hard to predict how the band will sound in the future.
We'll continue to follow our rules of having no rules :) Having only inspiration and freedom as guides. We hope our music can be spread as wide as possible throughout the world, and as it does we'll continue to try innovations and assorted musical paths as we always did.

2. Can you name some peculiarities that define the music scene in your town/country?
Honestly, rock music in Brazil has seen much better days, specially in the seventies and early eighties. We do have our thoughts on the reasons why rock music is being deliberately buried by the media/government here, in favor of brain-washing low-quality local music.
Maybe its because we have something to say. Maybe its because rock music can change thoughts, influence generations and cause reactions. That's absolutely not what they want, as the dumb-making machine must keep running so they can control the nation as we do with animals in a circus. And it's like this with everything culture-related in Brazil, from literature to cinema, from TV shows to the live music scene.
Unfortunately culture is dying day by day here in favor of a bunch of ambitious and non-human politicians.
Sad but true.

3. What do you think of episode 112? Which of the other featured songs do you like the most?
Wonderful to see great bands featuring on ArenaCast! We appreciate most of them! Bands like Black Oak blow our minds :)

4. Is there a story behind your song "How Long Is The Street"?
Hugo (Guitar and vocals): I was writing this song watching TV, the instrumental part, when started a live transmission of the miners being rescued in Chile. I was thinking what kind of thing those guys, without human condition, could be imagining. They were "locked" without light, without any expectation. I started to imagine myself in that situation and the phrase How long is the street was the best phrase that described my thoughts.

5. Please share your nearest plans. What are you currently working on?
We're editing our new videoclip, which was directed by Ale Souza and Fabio Ribeiro. It will be released in mid September.
Also, we are already compiling the material for an upcoming EP, to be released till the end of this year. Actually, when we recorded our latest album - S.H.A. - a few songs were left out, so we're going to include some of those, as well as two remixes from the album and a special song re-recorded exclusively with analog gear.
